The History of Electrodermal Screening

What is Electrodermal Screening?

The task was set to find a way of looking into the body to provide an early indicator or measure of health. The aim was to
“To develop an early warning system concerning the chemical homeostasis of a biological system, a device must be created that monitors the electrical nature of the biological system”.
Prof. William A. Tiller of Stanford University 1987.

Computerised electrodermal screening is a method of measuring your current state of energetic health as indicated through the meridian system, much like an electrocardiogram registers electrical current into the heart. By taking electrical readings from acupuncture points, usually on the hands, a series of health status readings can be produced in the computer, reflecting major organs and systems in the body. Then by a simple process of elimination, the likely cause of this poor function, be it chemical, environmental poison, food reaction, invading pathogen or parasite etc, can be determined.

Your Body Literally Glows with Light

Every action in the body starts with energy. Wound healing occurs after the formation of an electromagnetic field. Cell division is controlled by electromagnetic fields. There is nothing in the body which does not happen without energy. Therefore if you can assist the body to correct abnormal energy scenarios there is an excellent likelihood of having a beneficial effect on the overall operation of the organ system which in turn leads to an improvement in health.

We believe that health is not just a simple absence of a diagnosable disease – health is the human system operating at the best level it can. Our goal is to support our clients to achieve this using Bioenergetic Technology.

When should I see an Electrodermal Screener?

Electrodermal Screening is very useful for general health screening, or it can be used to obtain further information about a specific condition.

It is a relatively quick, painless, non-invasive means of running a health screen and can often indicate a problem coming before it actually progresses to symptomatology.

The computer has within its memory electrical frequencies relating to thousands of substances, including:
• Most homeopathic remedies
• Bacteria, virus, fungi
• Flower essences
• Drugs and pharmaceutical products
• Foods and allergy related phenolic compounds
• Chemicals and Pesticides
• Herbal and other traditional remedies

These frequencies are used to challenge your body and the resulting readings are evaluated to assist the practitioner to

• Evaluate digestive system, endocrine, lymphatic, and immune systems
• Indicate any vitamin, mineral, or amino acid imbalances
• Identify food allergies and sensitivities
• Point out environmental allergies to various substances and chemicals, as well as allergies to yeast and molds.
• Demonstrate the presence of chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and mother toxic materials in your body
• Identify the presence of heavy metals, such as mercury, lead, cadmium, aluminum, etc.
• Indicate hidden intestinal micro-organisms, such as parasites, bacteria, viruses, and yeasts.
• Reveal allergies to any medications or nutritional supplements you are now taking.

How is Electrodermal Screening Performed?

Your consultation will begin with a full history being taken. The practitioner needs to know what symptoms you are currently experiencing and what treatment you are having, a detailed history of past illnesses and treatments you have had, and what poisons, or other chemicals you remember being in contact with. As your energy system and your emotions are intimately linked your current and past emotional load is also important.

The actual testing procedure involves touching the probe on points on the fingers and in some very severe cases the toes. The current that passes through the patient's body is so low that it usually cannot be felt. One major advantage of this technique is that the client is not subject to painful, invasive and sometimes dangerous techniques that are often associated with other forms of investigation.

The testing being performed and your body's response to that test are displayed in front of you all the time on the computer screen. You are invited to become actively involved in searching for possible causes/exacerbations of your illness/ill health through the course of the treatment. You will be given a summary of this testing and some explanatory notes at the end of the treatment.

After your test you will be given homeopathic based remedies which have been indicated by the test, in some cases supplementation with minerals and vitamins may be indicated. You may also be recommended to see another practitioner or your doctor according to what the test results may indicate.

How does it work?

It is a new form of medicine outside of most people's understanding. People have been educated in medicine's paradigm of the body as cells and chemicals, however, underneath the cells, molecules and atoms all we are is energy. Energy can get disrupted just like our TV when it is not tunes. CEDS helps to identify energy disruptions and what is necessary to allow the body to correct them – just like tuning in your TV.

Is it Government approved?

The computer device is passed as a measuring device under the Therapeutic Goods Act. The results obtained are indicative and not to be considered truly diagnostic. At present there are no “gold standard” diagnostic procedures for CEDS although several preliminary trials have indicated that in time this could well be possible.
The technique is understood, accepted, and used widely in other countries, especially Germany, France, England, and Canada

Do I get Health Insurance Rebates?

At present CEDS as it stands is not covered by Medicare nor the health care funds.

Can CEDS be used in conjunction with other modalities?

Chronic Ill Health
Many people are searching for the reason why they are feeling constantly tired and sick. Frequently standard testing procedures show nothing and no one can find out what is wrong or help them. This is one technique that can be useful in helping these people.

Children
It is a useful, non-threatening technology for seeking answers to children's health problems. It has been used successfully to treat problems such as digestive disorders and behavioral symptoms. Testing is gentle and safe and the remedies given usually have no taste.

Detoxification
This is particularly useful in patients with chemical load.

"Allergy" Tests
It is possible to test a person's food sensitivities using this quick and simple method. Food sensitivity is only a resulting symptom of a malfunction somewhere in the body. In many cases by treating the digestive systems health food sensitivity can be decreased and foods better tolerated.

Hay fever and airborne "allergies" are in many cases a symptom of an underlying food sensitivity.

How did CEDS develop?

In the last 60 years, physicians and scientists have been studying the electronic properties of the body. In the early 1900's through studying the electronic properties of the skin, Dr. Reinhold Voll discovered that the meridians points, so familiar to the Chinese practitioners, actually gave a different skin resistance reading to the rest of the skin.

Voll had learned that the body had about 1000 points on the skin which followed twelve lines called meridians. The Chinese said the meridians were channels of energy. Each meridian was a window to the status of an organ system in the body. As Voll began experiments to influence the strength and flow associated with the acupuncture points, he discovered the need for some way to measure the flow. He and Dr. Fritz Warner created an instrument to measure the galvanic skin resistance (GSR) at the acupuncture points. They established a scale from 0 to 100 with 50 as the normal GSR. Readings above 50 indicated an inflammation of one or all organs associated with the meridian while readings below 50 indicated a degeneration.

This ability to measure flow was taken a step further some years later when it was discovered that the acupuncture point readings would change when different substances were introduced to the person. This was explainable as each substance has its own key energy frequency pattern. Some substances caused the readings to vary away from 50 and some brought the readings to 50. Those that brought the GSR closer to 50 were considered to be beneficial for the balancing of the meridian and the overall health of the individual. Those that took it away from 50 were considered to most likely be toxic to that person.

James Hoyt Clark, who is a scientist from Utah, USA, developed a computer programme that was linked to the galvanic reader. They were now able to measure the flow at acupuncture points and search the memory of thousands of frequency patterns to find which could reverse any imbalances reflected in the GSR readings. The idea is to stimulate the body's energy system with the appropriate frequencies so that it rebalances itself. This is the homeopathic principle of “like cures like”
